About me

I and my husband and son are new boat owners. We recently collected brand new from the builders Powercats Ltd of Redruth Cornwall the first boat any of us have ever purchased/owned in February 2008. Knowing that we were going to buy a powerboat of some sort when we moved to Greece, hubby did his PB2 course in October 2006 and then his Powerboat Instructors course in August 2007. He has yet to give his first lesson. Our son did his PB2 in September 2007. I have no idea about anything regarding boats other than what I pick up from reading on the internet. The only time I have ever taken control of a boat was on the demonstration we were given of a Powercat 525 cuddy version that we saw displayed at the Margam Boat Show in June 2007. It turns out that buying and owning a boat is a lot more complicated and difficult than we had ever imagined. Just training up to drive one safely is not enough it turns out. Unfortunately there isn't a course in boat buying although there should be - if you are buying a new boat or thinking of it and you are new to buying a boat - look up as much as you can about consumer rights and the sorts of things that go wrong with new boat purchases before getting into it. We didn't and it turned out to be a very bad mistake. We thought it would be like buying a brand new car but apparantly boats are a whole new ball game and a bit of a minefield - to mix a few metaphors.
