- Is it really the Planet we need to save? Organic Advice
- by soniakalia
- in buyorganics.blog.co.uk
- 7 days old
- Every time I read some media article or personal campaign geared towards saving the Planet, I cringe at the over generalisation! Sometimes I think people are so mislead or mis-communicated too. The real ‘thing’ that needs saving in my opinion is not really the Planet, it’s us the Human Race and life as we know it! Not only will... more

- 370-year old oak tree bought by Bordeaux barrel maker
- by janeanson
- in newbordeaux.blog.co.uk
- 10 days old
- I am having a bit of an obsession with oak barrels recently. Went to a wonderful tasting at Brane-Cantenac last week where I tasted different coopers and different toasts of barrels on the same wine samples (I have been meaning to write it up ever since). In our local paper today (Sud Ouest), the barrel makers Sylvain have bought in auction two... more

- 2005 called into question by Parker?
- by janeanson
- in newbordeaux.blog.co.uk
- 12 days old
- At the same time as the 2007 scores, Parker released his 'final' 2005 scores, after retasting. There are some suprising comparisons with other years, if you can excuse me getting technical for a minute - particularly when you think about the prices 2005 are going for. For example: Lafite in 2005 scored 96 (re-tasted score) The 1996, 2000 and... more

- COURSEWORK was FINALLY finished at 11.30pm last night; managed to cut 3,300 word English essay down to 2,000 word limit (who knew I had so much to say about King Lear? Not me, seeing as I never read past Act 1, scene 2!) Am now celebrating with fuck-off massive glass of French wine, and desperately craving French bread to go with it (a result of... more

- Sauternes gone mad...
- by janeanson
- in newbordeaux.blog.co.uk
- 15 days old
- Next up, Chateau Suduiraut, owned by AXA Millesimes. Don't have their exact price to hand, but up around 20% from last year. (update 42 euros). Are they trying to completely kill off the 2007 campaign before it has even begun? It's one thing saying that Sauternes are in a different market from the red wines, and that they have a niche audience... more

- Entre deux Mers to become red wine appellation?
- by janeanson
- in newbordeaux.blog.co.uk
- 17 days old
- Met today with two winemakers in Entre deux Mers (the large area of Bordeaux between the two rivers of the Garonne and the Dordogne, an entirely white wine appellation). According to Chateau Landereau, just outside Creon, the syndicate has asked INAO for the right to make red wine as well as white wine within the appellation. Currently, you can... more

- HOW BIG DO YOU LIKE IT?
- by kendrive

- Wine glasses are getting larger and 14% of licensed premises say they now offer only 250ml sized wine glasses - equivalent to a third of a bottle. Now that is nearly half-a-pint. Meanwhile, many pubs have increased spirit measures from 25 to 35ml and offer doubles as standard. However, as fears about a binge drinking epidemic mount, the trend... more
