- Seven month update
- by Joanna79

- It is nearly two weeks since my last entry (where does the time go?!) so I thought I’d better do an update. The girls are now seven months and a week old so here’s what we’ve all been up to: 1. Weaning. Thanks to a team effort between us and nursery, the girls are now on three meals a day. They absolutely love breakfast and dinner but were less... more

- The phantom raspberry blower

- As a child I remember being mildly traumatised by The Phantom Raspberry Blower sketch (penned by Spike Milligan) on the Two Ronnies show. 20-odd years on, it appears that I have given birth to its daughter. R LOVES blowing raspberries. Especially during feeding time. More particularly, during feeding time involving vegetables. Now, I feel her... more

- From 0 to 3 meals a day – how did we manage that?!
- by Joanna79

- To think that just a couple of weeks ago I was in weaning despair: the girls wouldn’t eat, weren’t interested in eating, it was all pointless, blah blah and now we’re on three meals a day. Baby porridge or cereal in the morning, savoury at lunch and fruit in the afternoon. Admittedly they don’t always eat very much but at least some food is... more

- We love baby porridge!

- As the title suggests, we’ve finally found a foodstuff that R and G absolutely love. In fact, they lap up big bowlfuls of it. Having tried it myself, I can see why. It is delicious! One of the more interesting aspects of the weaning saga is trying out baby food. Most of it is absolutely disgusting so I’m not surprised they’ve been rejecting... more

- Now we are six (months)
- by Joanna79

- Six months. OH. MY. GOD. How did that happen?! So, here’s my monthly roundup: 1. Weaning. Still problematic, but they are on two meals a day at nursery now (breakfast and lunch) so that makes up a little bit for the fact that they still aren’t hugely interested at home. I think we’re getting there though, albeit slowly. 2. Teething. Still no... more

- Nursery mush good, home mush bad
- by Joanna79

- After my slightly despairing journal the other day about the fact that the girls weren’t taking to weaning, they have just spent two days at nursery where apparently they ate carrot and broccoli and LOVED IT! G ate a whole tub thingy of broccoli and it sounds like she would have had more if she could have. R is still a little reticent but still... more

- Teething. Without the teeth
- by Joanna79

- Why can’t babies be born with a set of gleaming white gnashers? Or, in the case of my two, why do they need teeth when they seem perfectly happy with milk? We’re had all the symptoms of teething for nearly two months now but no sign of any sodding teeth! Every day we poke hopefully around their gums praying to feel something anything that might... more

- Weaning worries
- by Joanna79

- Just when you think you’ve got this parenting lark sussed the little cherubs find another way to freak you out. R and G are really not enjoying weaning. Yes, these are the same babies that have been on hungrier baby milk since they were 3 weeks old and regularly down 9oz bottles. I was utterly convinced that they would take to food like ducks to... more

- Are we too strict?
- by Joanna79
- in houseoftwins.blog.co.uk

- I’ve written about routines a number of times and believe that we couldn’t cope without one. However, so many people look horrified when we tell them about the girls’ routine and what it involves. This leads me to wonder – are we too strict with them? Here’s a typical day (at home – working/nursery days are obviously a little different) in the... more
