- I've had the song Yellow by Coldplay in my head all day, 'on repeat'. It's lovely. Sam took me to the White Horse in Abingdon for a meal this evening (he paid, rejecting my offer to go halves because he knows I need to save to pay my mum back for my gym membership and our holiday, aww!) because I've been craving pub food ever since the sun came... more

- Yesterday saw my wife and I, at the invitation of our good friends, Bernadette and Peter, Pounding the Bounds in the small Shropshire village of Rock. This has become somewhat of an annual event for the four of us. Pounding the bounds has it's roots in antiquity, when villagers annually walked the boundaries of the parish, flattening grass and... more

- I took my Mum and elder sister out for lunch. We went to a pub at top of village where my Mum lives. Had a pretty perfect roast dinner for £6.00 a head. The pub has been done out and is very modern looking, but has these old photos of the village and surrounding area. Also did my Mum's shopping, so feeling quite positive about having done... more

- Every country has its strong and weak points. Today I went to a lovely country pub after a walk in a spectacular copse full of bluebells. Two things though were crazy but are widespread:a) the use of brim measure for draft beerb) the use of carpets on the floorBrim measure guarantees that you spill part of the drink on the floor. Carpets... more

- Spent the weekend in the Lake District. Actually managed to drag my husband, kicking and screaming as you can imagine, into a pub that wasn't owned by Jennings, the local brewery in Cockermouth, stop sniggering at the back. This hostelry supplied beer brewed by Keswick Brewery. My husband opted for a pint or two of Coniston Bluebird Ale. Goes... more

- Rumours abound

- I've just heard a rumour about my favourite pub in this hell-hole town. The refurb is almost complete and apparently it looks "very different and very nice". I hope this does not mean what I think it means - that they've ripped out the essential country-pub-in-town feel to replace it with a town-centre-pub-trying-too-hard-to-impress feel. I've... more

- I'm down the pub again (surprise, surprise) and they've run out of draught cider. :( I've had to suffer a choice of either Magners or Strongbow Sirrus. Bleeurgh! What's a guy to do, eh? more
