- Rupert Brooke's sonnet 'Peace' was inspired by his experience with the Royal Naval Division during the evacuation of Antwerp in October 1914. - Rupert Brooke is one of the best-known poets of the First World War. However, despite the subject of many of his poems, he never experienced combat at first hand.
