Description
Bike as provided by the City of Aarhus in Denmark for anyone rich enough to possess a 20 kronur coin (about £2) with which to release the bike from its tether at one of some 20 or so points around town. The bike itself is a 'one size fits all' type, which is a lie in itself, but can be made tolerable with a bit of patience. There is only one gear and I think it is a bit high. The front brake is a caliper-type and the back one of a 'back-pedalling' type which is surprisingly effective judging by the substantial flats worn on the rear tyre of the bike I chose. Punctures are not a problem. How so ? The tyres are solid rubber ! Apparently, the bikes are popular on a Saturday night for drunks who can eventually find where to stuff the 20KR coin and pedal off home, abandoning the bike wherever because it is cheaper than a taxi. They turn up all over the place. An interesting social experiment. Ken Livingstone take note.
